Catch-all Data Repository Introduction (Legacy)
The Catch-all Data Repository is a repository for general scientific data. This temporary documentation describes the running legacy version of the repository, a new documentation is under construction as the system will undergo a major overhaul.
Mission
The repository is intended for general scientific data that should be stored into a repository, but for which no better deposition option exists. While the catch-all repository is handled with all the care needed to operate a repository, users are advised to
- prefer using an established topical repository is available for their data in their scientific discipline,
- get familiar with their scientific community standards and customs in their particular field of study.
Specific community repositories will usually provide better findability of the data and have specific metadata models tailored for the needs of particular communities. You can also check the recommendations to choose a repository.
If you are positive that no better choice than the catch-all repository is available for you, then welcome to the catch-all repository. Make sure to get familiar with its basic principles and limitations.
General Information
TL;DR what you need to know:
-
the Data Catch-all Repository is operated by CESNET in scope of the NRP project
-
users of the national e-infrastructure (i.e. staff and students of public universities, the Academy of Sciences and other research organisations) and their direct collaborators may depose data there
-
generic metadata model CCMM covering basic needs is supported (similar to a bibliographic record)
-
persistent identifiers (DOI) can be assigned
-
the records in the repository are published by default; an embargo period may be set: data of embargoed records are kept private and after the period elapses, the record is automatically published in full
-
supported dataset licenses are variants of Creative Commons
-
metadata is publicly available and completely free to use
-
there are no restriction on file formats, files can be zipped
-
published data is accessible to the public internet (without any user authentication)
-
after the record is finalised, its data cannot be changed any more, a new version of the record must be created should changing the data be necessary; metadata, though, can be corrected any time
-
data deletion is handled upon user request by user support
-
for the time being, there is no data life cycle policy yet. Note that it is the policy of organisations assigning persistent identifiers (e.g. DOI) that at least a basic metadata record of a dataset must be preserved forever, even if the data itself is deleted.
Terms of Service
The repository is operated under the National Repository Platform.
